Adventures in Book-Writing, Part 1
You may have noticed that this blog has been silent for a while. I began the blogging journey with weekly entries, then needed to cut back to every other week. Then, as I realized that my first book was taking a lot longer to write than I’d anticipated, I realized that I would need to stop blogging for a while if I hoped to finish it.
I’m happy to report that this strategy has paid off – I recently finished the first draft of my first book! I had no idea when I started three years ago that it would require as much research and hard thinking as it did. I love both of those activities, but I don’t love lagging on what God has called me to do.
So, I am relieved, glad and amazed that this leg of the journey is over. I learned a lot along the way and am excited to share it with everyone. For a little tasting plate, here’s the Table of Contents for (tentatively titled) Dividing Soul from Spirit:
Chapter 1: Dividing Soul from Spirit
Chapter 2: Personality and the Inner Critic
Chapter 3: Mapping Your Personality
Chapter 4: The Mind
Chapter 5: The Will
Chapter 6: The Emotions
Chapter 7: Personality’s Far-Flung Effects
Chapter 8: How Personality Affects Your Relationship with God
Chapter 9: Personality, Identity and Destiny
Chapter 10: Implications and Applications
For regular readers of my blog, you will notice that these are all the regular themes. Teaching people the difference between their personality and their identity, and how knowing the difference determines whether you fulfill your purpose, is part of my purpose. It fills me with joy.
Now, I move on to working with an editor to help me see where I’ve been redundant or need to explain things better or move things around. And I’m boning up on how to self-publish on Amazon—my current plan—and launch and market books. In true Seven knowledge glutton fashion, I’m on the fourth of five books on the topic! But they’re all ebooks and quick reads.
So, I don’t know when the next blog post will be out. But I will keep you posted on this adventure, and on whatever else seems helpful and relevant as we journey together through the maze of personality and toward our true selves.
